Target 2023 Latino Heritage Month Collection
In 2023, I was invited to design for Target’s Latino Heritage Month collection. My contributions to the line were inspired by the vivid flora and tropical flowers of Puerto Rico, drawn from a deep well of nostalgia for the years I lived there—when the jungle was quite literally my backyard. These designs were a celebration of memory, place, and identity, and they were featured across a range of products including mugs, a set of two journals, and garments (specifically, a top). The collection was distributed nationwide in all Target stores.
A Note on Accountability
While I was initially proud to be included in this initiative, I no longer support or work with Target. I have chosen to distance myself from the brand on principle, in response to their performative approach to diversity and their recent rollback of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) efforts under pressure from far-right political actors and the Trump-aligned movement. These actions made clear that the company’s commitment to historically marginalized communities was conditional, superficial, and ultimately disposable. As an artist and collaborator, I believe in sustained, values-aligned partnerships—and this was not one.
