Wedding Embroidered Shirts (2023)

Inspired by the vibrant Otomi embroidery tradition from Mexico, these hand-embroidered shirts were created for me and my husband to wear on our wedding day. For my shirt, I chose bold primary colors and embroidered a floral motif along the collar and cuffs, capturing the spirit of the Otomi style with its lively, colorful patterns. For my husband’s shirt, I focused on green, using leafy vine motifs that wound across the button line. The rose-colored buttons were intentionally chosen to mimic the appearance of flowers in bloom, further enhancing the natural, organic feel of the design.

Our wedding was held at the Wyck Rose Garden in Germantown in 2023, and the shirts were a reflection of both our personal style and our shared love for nature and culture. This piece is not just a celebration of our union, but also a nod to the rich history of Mexican textile traditions that continue to inspire and influence my work.
